About

The Dipsea Race Foundation

Mission Statement:

To inspire our community and beyond to support the tradition of the Dipsea Race, the stewardship of the Dipsea Trail, and the legacy of the Dipsea for current and future generations.

The Dipsea race is so storied—and the chance to run it so coveted—that people often have no idea that “The Dipsea” is much more than a glorious and challenging trail run.  A 501c3 nonprofit, The Dipsea Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the Race, raising and distributing tax-deductible donations to support their charitable work.

For more than a century, a fortunate and hardy group of athletes of all ages, have had the privilege of traversing the magical steps and rugged trails between Mill Valley and Stinson Beach during the annual running of “The Dipsea.”

Indeed, “The Dipsea” refers to all the aspects of the true community treasure that:

  • Connects guests and visitors with the ancient, enchanted Muir Woods,
  • Restores and preserves the famed steps and foot-paths,
  • Awards post-secondary scholarships for qualified local students who have participated in the race or volunteered to assist with the race, show leadership and are excelling students with ties to their community,
  • Brings the gift of running and recreation to youth students in neighboring communities.
